ISTRIA gets first major for dental assistant – Introduced by Italian High School

For the first time, students completing the eighth grade of elementary school will be offered a dental assistant in Istria.

Namely, until now, eighth graders from Istria had to enroll in Rijeka, and from this year it is offered by the Italian High School from Rovinj.

“We have been working on introducing this course for several years because we have established that there is a need for it. It is a deficient profession, which has been confirmed by numerous dental offices”, explains Ines Venier, the principal of this school, which constantly introduces novelties, so we remind that it has only been a little more than 5 years since the direction of medical beautician was introduced.

Dental assistants assist doctors of dental medicine during the therapeutic procedure, but they also do a lot before, as well as after the procedure. In their job description there is also the preparation of the patient, workplace, instruments and accessories for the therapeutic procedure, and then the care of the patient after him. In addition, dental assistants keep records and prescribed medical records.

Due to the lack of staff, venier tells us, who inquired about this for years before starting this course, from dental offices they hire nurses who perform the work of dental assistants, and some clinics sent inquiries for physiotherapists, with adequate training.

Precisely because of this problem, the idea of this innovative school immediately came across “fertile ground”, and received the consent of the founder, the Istrian County. This was followed by the support and support of the City of Rovinj-Rovigno, the local Italian Community, the Council of the Italian Autochthonous National Minority of the Istrian County, the Istrian Health Centers, and then the Italian Union, which largely financed the equipping of the classroom for practical work, as well as dental centers in Rovinj, from which they also received numerous donations.

Jointly, a new programme has been launched, which this year’s eighth graders will be able to submit from 28 June to 28 June. June, all the way to 7. July.

In addition to general education subjects, they are expected by those professional such as dental medicine, dental assistants, work organization in the dental practice and preventive measures in health care, as well as offered elective vocational courses such as communication skills, administration in dental medicine, dental computer program or basics of radiology in dental medicine.

In addition to the theoretical work that will be taught by doctors of dental medicine and nurses, they will also perform an internship that has already been agreed with Istrian health centers throughout Istria, just as the students who attend the Rovinj Italian High School come from the entire peninsula. In addition, cooperation was agreed with private offices of Rovinj.

“It is essential to have a capable and learned person who will perform the job of a dental assistant. After all, dental and health tourism is present in our country, so we have opted for it in order to enrich our offer”, says director Venier, whose school already counts many success stories of employed medical beauticians or physiotherapeutic technicians, also majors in the field of health tourism.

This will certainly be the case with the upcoming generations of the newly introduced direction, which, through learning and practice, will earn its first diploma of dental assistant in Rovinj.
